Building in the fire: What 2024 taught us
🔥 2024 was a year of fire, a fire that burned, but also illuminated and shaped us.
At CHEVS, we learned to rebuild in the flames: our communities, our hopes, our rights.
Amid shrinking civic space and digital repression, we chose resistance and solidarity. In a region where freedoms are under siege, our purpose stayed clear: to defend the dignity and safety of LGBTQI+ people across West Africa while reimagining inclusive feminist futures.
In 2024, we:
Supported activists under threat and strengthened rapid response systems.
Trained young people in digital rights and safety.
Elevated queer voices in regional and global policy spaces.
Advanced sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.
Deepened our work on economic justice, helping local groups sustain feminist and queer-led initiatives rooted in care and community.
