CHEVS is not a typical organization and we are not looking for typical candidates. We are a youth-led feminist collective operating at the intersection of movement building, advocacy, and narrative change — in some of the most politically charged contexts in West Africa. The people who thrive here are those who bring both sharp political analysis and deep care for the community, who understand that this work is personal. Who are ready to build, not just execute.

WHO WE ARE AS AN EMPLOYER
We are small, nimble, and intentional. We move fast when movements need us to, and we slow down to do the thinking our work demands. We are distributed across West Africa and beyond, which means we are a remote-first team that takes seriously the question of how to build genuine solidarity and culture across distance.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR
Across every role, we look for people who are: Grounded in feminist and queer politics, with a clear understanding of how systems of power operate in African contexts. Committed to collective care — someone who shows up for colleagues the way they show up for the work. Honest about what they know and what they are still learning. Able to hold complexity: this work rarely offers clean answers, and we need people who are energized by that, not paralyzed by it. Specific roles will have specific requirements. But these are the qualities that cut across everything we do.

A NOTE ON OUR PROCESS
We know that hiring processes can be extractive, especially in the civil society sector where candidates are often asked to give a great deal before receiving anything in return. We try to keep our process clear, honest, and respectful of your time. We will always tell you where you are in the process. We will not ask for unpaid work beyond what is necessary to assess fit. We will give feedback where we can.
